Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca citadel in the Andes Mountains of Peru. It is renowned for its stunning panoramic views and sophisticated dry-stone construction techniques. Built in the 15th century, it was likely intended as a royal estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti. The site was abandoned a hundred years later during the Spanish Conquest. It remained unknown primarily until American historian Hiram Bingham rediscovered it in 1911. Today, Machu Picchu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a popular tourist destination that attracts millions of visitors annually. People come to see its impressive buildings and stunning natural beauty.

Machu Picchu is located in a tropical zone, resulting in a warm and humid climate. Temperatures range from 8 °C to 20 °C. The months from April to September are the busiest tourism season and the best time to travel to the Lost City of the Incas.

  1. Bring original documents: a valid travel passport with an effective date.
  2. Pack travel clothes like long pants, long-sleeved polo shirts, a hat, and comfortable walking shoes. Also, bring a jacket for the cold Andes.
  3. Extra items: sunscreen, mosquito repellent, personal medicine, extra money in soles, a camera, and water in a reusable bottle.
