MORAY Tour – The Sacred Valley is home to the Moray salt mines. Each terrace has a unique microclimate. The Incas could determine the optimal growing conditions for different crops.
Significant depression does not contain destroyed buildings, surrounded by a large covered terrace, which each level has its microclimates. It is a very atmospheric place, which, some claim, has mysterious power.
MARAS SALINERAS (Maras Salt Mines Peru) is in the western part of Cusco, 3300 meters above sea level. (10,824 feet). About 7 kilometers. Maras salt ponds have a porous natural rock formation that filters water into the earth’s interior. The Salineras of Maras salt mines consist of 3,000 small swimming pools.

No one is exactly sure what was happening at Moray during Inca times. The three agricultural coliseums have irrigation canals and several terraces for farm experimentation. Each level is thought to have a different microclimate and may have been used to acclimate various crops.
Maras is a striking salt extraction complex. You can access it via a bridle path. The locals still remove salt from the pans as they have for thousands of years. Families pass the pans down from generation to generation as they continue this labor-intensive operation.
Sacred Valley Tour
You will likely pass through here on the way to Moray. Getting to each location is a bit difficult. The easiest way is by car from Cusco or Urubamba to Moray. You can also hike to Maras from Urubamba, which takes several hours. Ask locals for the best route. And yet another way is via horseback or mountain bike from Cuzco or Urubamba.
