PRESENTATION OF COLCA CANYON TREK 2 DAY: Arequipa Hike has an incredibly challenging and rewarding trekking experience. Join us for a 2-day Colca Canyon Adventure Trek and discover one of Peru’s most spectacular natural wonders.

DAY 1

Trip to Cabanaconde: Hike to El Oasis

Hike to the Colca Canyon to Oasis

Pick-up service from the Arequipa Hotel begins at 4:30 a.m. and travels to Cabanaconde via Chivay for 4 hours and 15 minutes. At Cabanaconde town, “Mirador de San Miguel” begins the trek towards the bottom of the Colca Canyon. Enjoy a traditional Colca Canyon lunch in San Juan de Chuccho with a breathtaking view of the Peruvian Andes.

Continue hiking up the mountain, passing through the hamlets of Cosñirhua and Malata, to descend a little further into the Colca Canyon until you reach Sangalle, better known as the Oasis.

Hiking Time: 6-7h | Difficulty: Challenging 
  • MIRADOR SAN MIGUEL TO SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO: Time: 2h45min | Difficulty: Hard – This section is a constant steep descent until the bottom of the canyon to the Colca River.
  • SAN JUAN DE CHUCCHO TO COSÑIRHUA: Time: 1h15min | Difficulty: Hard – This section of the trail is very steep and a constant for little more than an hour’s ascent under the sun until Cosñirhua.
  • COSÑIRHUA TO MALATA – Time: 15min | Difficulty: Easy – This section is a relaxing flat walk on a dirt road, then we follow the hiking trail.
  • MALATA TO SANGALLE (THE OASIS) – Time: 1h30min | Difficulty: Medium – This section is an entire descending zigzagging trail. After the descent, we arrive at a bridge that is also the Oasis’s beginning. Once there, we only need to climb several more curves to get to Sangalle.

DAY 2

Colca Canyon Exit Trek - Return trip

At 4:30 a.m., the walk to Cabanaconde via Sangalle begins with the cool breezes of the Colca Canyon. We walk uphill for about 3 hours until we reach Cabanaconde. Enjoy an incredible sunrise over the Colca Canyon and the Andes.

In Cabanaconde, we board the vehicle to go to the Condor viewpoint to see the flight of the Condor; then, we explore the incredible views of the agricultural terraces of other sectors of the Colca Canyon. In Chivay, enjoy the well-deserved hot springs (optional).

In the afternoon, we return to Arequipa. NOTE: You can also start the trip from Puno and end in Arequipa or vice versa; please write us about this option.

  • SANGALLE TO CABANACONDE: This trek takes 3 hours and 20 minutes, with many short breaks, to return to the top of the canyon.
