Itinerary

Choquequirao Trek 5 Days ITINERARY

As you begin the Choquequirao Trek, the enigma of this lost city will capture your imagination. The trail offers a challenging yet rewarding experience, immersing trekkers in the magnificence of the Andean landscape. Every step, from snow-capped peaks to lush valleys, reveals a stunning panorama that seems almost surreal. The appeal of this trek lies not only in its natural splendor but also in the ancient ruins that await discovery.

PRE-TREKKING TALK: 01 to 02 days before starting the trek to Choquequirao Trek 5 Days at 05:30 pm at the hotel reception of the group of trekkers; our adventure guide provides general information about the Choquequirao trek of 05 days and 04 nights specifying each day. All questions are welcome to be prepared for our expedition through the southern Andes of Peru within the Cusco region.

DAY 1

CUSCO – CAPULIYOC TO SANTA ROSA

Our Choquequirao Trek 5 Days expedition begins with the land trip at 05:30 a.m., leaving the city of Cusco and heading northwest. We cross the Anta plateau, descend towards the Limatambo valley, cross the CUNYAC bridge, and then go back up the mountain; in the sector of the branch of the town of Cachora, we take the RAMAL entered towards the Cachora valley. The last leg of the trip is from Cachora to Capuliyoc, “the trip lasts approximately 04 hours and 20 minutes”.

Capuliyoc Pass: A Glimpse into the Depths

The Capuliyoc Pass offers a mesmerizing view of the Apurimac Valley, a deep chasm that will inspire you. Apurimac Canyon, Canyon View, Capuliyoc viewpoint

In Capuliyoc, our mules are waiting for us to load all the mountain equipment and start the adventure towards Choquequirao. At approximately 10 a.m., we begin our walk descending through the Apurimac Canyon, already having spectacular panoramic views of the Andes Mountains with its eternal snow-capped peaks, such as PADREYOC.

  • From Capuliyoc to the Apurimac River, the Playa Rosalina sector takes around 04 hours and a half. WE RECOMMEND, YES OR YES, A PAIR OF CANES WITH EXCELLENT HIKING SHOES WITH ANKLE SUPPORT.
  • From PLAYA ROSALINA, the sector of the Apurimac River towards SANTA ROSA. Our trek up the mountain takes approximately 02 hours of walking, “perhaps the night will reach us, so we recommend bringing your flashlight in your day backpack to conquer the first camp without problems.”

DAY 2

SANTA ROSA – INC OF CHOQUEQUIRAO

Today, we start our trek at 08:00 am to rest excellently, super well, the first night after the first day of hiking.

The walk takes about 03 hours to reach the community of Marampata. Every time we ascend the mountain, the vegetation turns green due to the presence of the cloud forest, finding bamboo, ferns, begonias, etc. The good thing about this first path is that it is a natural shade to protect us from the sun. We find incredible views of the Apurimac Canyon due to the conjugation of spectacular combinations of vegetation.

From MARAMPATA to the INC camp, it takes approximately 02 hours; the trail is undulating, BUT it has other amazing views of the Apurimac River and the canyon, with the first views of Choquequirao. Ideal for taking multiple panoramic photos in all their glory. The INC camp is located near and on the slopes of the Choquequirao ruins.

  • Take a 5-day historical journey on the Choquequirao trek through ancient Inca ruins and stunning natural wonders of Peru.

The Choquequirao trek in Peru is one of the most famous adventures on the trip to Cusco. This trekking route takes four days and covers 62 kilometers in outward and return sections.

The tour is recommended for children over eight years old who enjoy hiking outdoors.

Older adults wishing to do the Choquequirao trek should be physically healthy. It is not recommended if they have heart problems.

Yes, the Choquequirao trek is an accessible route for the public. However, it is advisable to hire a tour agency as it includes everything you need: a Local professional guide, camping, food, entrance fees, etc.

The route is of moderate to great difficulty. It is recommended to be in good physical condition. However, with effort, anyone can complete the hike.

Yes, We offer the 8-day trek that includes visiting the archaeological site of Choquequirao and the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

The entrance to Choquequirao costs 60 soles for adults, 30 for university students, and 25 for children. These tickets are already included in the tour.

Don’t forget to bring a sleeping bag, poncho in case of rain, comfortable sports clothes (that can withstand low temperatures), snacks, fruits, batteries, personal utensils, and objects you think are necessary.

The tour has wide availability. It is recommended to make the purchase weeks in advance. This way, you can better organize the route.

The weather during the trek is warm and temperate, with temperatures ranging from 8ºC. to 24ºC. Maximum. Rains can occur on any day of the year, especially in January, February, and March.

On your own: Choquequirao is reached by Cusco or Abancay; the first destination is the town of Cachora; you ascend on foot to Choquequirao. The hike is one day, and the return is the same way.

Hiring your Choquequirao trek with Kondor Path Tours is the safest and most convenient way because they take care of all the trip’s logistics, and we must enjoy this exciting hike.

Choquequirao is 3,033 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.).

Choquequirao houses Inca constructions as impressive as Machu Picchu, such as:

  • The Main Plaza,
  • The Colcas,
  • The Inca Cemetery,
  • The Kallankas,
  • The Ushnu,
  • Los Andenes, etc.

Choquequirao is still excavating; it is estimated that, to date, only 30% of the original Inca precinct has been restored.

Because of its geographical position, Choquequirao has a “temperate – warm” climate due to the Apurimac Canyon, alternating with cold temperatures at night; the average annual temperature is 17ºC.

To do this trek, it is necessary to acclimatize in the city of Cusco one or two days before starting the hike; for proper acclimatization, it is essential to rest as much as possible, eat a little, and drink plenty of fluids.

It is also necessary to be in good physical and mental condition; this is a trek where the level of demand is higher than the Inca Trail or Salkantay.

Because Choquequirao has a “warm-temperate” climate, it is unlikely to suffer from altitude sickness or “Soroche.” Still, if this happens, we can drink the coca leaves tea, which is highly known for its healing and relaxing properties.

The Choquequirao tour is a unique and unforgettable experience; since it is a challenging, unique, and natural adventure, we will know the ancestral wonders of the Incas, accompanied by the satisfaction of feeling fulfilled at the culmination of this hike. To have an even more pleasant and safe experience, do not forget to contact Waman Adventures, a prestigious company from Cusco that will guide you in every moment of this incredible journey, along with quality and certified professionals that will make your trip the most memorable experience of your life.

It is to enjoy a full day of the archaeological ruins of Choquequirao from end to end to understand the reason and the reason why the ancient Incas decided to build a tremendous Inca construction on top of a mountain next to a mountain range surrounded by the river Apurimac. We recommend Choquequirao Trek 5 Days for your next vacation to the Cusco region, Peru, South America.

Alittle bit of everything We had a last minute change of plans when it came to our tour. We were supposed to visit the rainbow mountain but with the recent protesting we called to see if we could change last minute and they were very accommodating. Odon and Fernando were amazing! They took us to see multiple attractions and made us feel very at home. And kudos to Renee for the amazing driving. I would highly recommend using this company for a tour. We will definitely use them if we ever come back!

Family vacation Kondor path tours arranged a couple of private tours on our last vacation in Peru. Our first tour was the Rainbow Mountains and the next day we did the sacred Valley Tour. The administrative services were excellent, we met at our hotel the day before our tours and our head guide, Fredy, explained everything perfectly, including what to wear and bring for each tour. On the tour days, our guides (Fredy and Juan Carlos) and driver (Juan Carlos) were great! very knowledgeable, considerate about our party, always helpful and ready to answer questions and meet the expectations (completely different expectations because we had different ages in our party (from 11 to 69 years)) of each party member. The rainbow mountain is awesome and is is really helpful to go with a guide that knows about the area, but also about hiking!!!

Excellent guide who stays with you for the entire day The Vinicunca one-day horse tour was fantastic. The friendly and informative Freddy guided us for the entire bus ride and mountain trek. He knew where to stand to get the best photos and made everything fun and accommodating. The horse ride up made it much easier to enjoy the final hike. Lunch was large and tasty. Door to door service.

Awesome Service and Tours Fernando and Patricia were SUPER responsive - usually responded to emails within 10 minutes!!. The arrangements they made for Cusco, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, and surrounding areas were awesome. They were waiting for us at the airport and did everything we asked them. Our guide for the four days was Herberth and driver was Juan Carlos. Both were SUPER SUPER great. Juan Carlos was such an amazingly pleasant driver with cute stories. He also was a very safe driver. Herberth was very knowledgable and helpful. Took us all over the places with details about the history and details. We had friends who were not able to climb much and they accommodated us all.On the day we had planned to do rainbow mountain we did not feel great and emailed Fernando at 5am and he responded within 5 minutes with other options for us to do that day. Overall, if you are going to Peru and want to visit the historic sites, you SHOULD go with these people. They are SUPERB!!

Rainbow Trek and Horseback Riding A group of 7 of us did a One Day Rainbow Trek and Horseback Riding. Freddy was our guide and he was prompt and with us every moment of the journey. They were so accommodating to move the debrief meeting the night before because we had a food tour that evening. Freddy had so much energy, knowledge, and excitement to share with us about his native homeland. In addition, he made sure that we were well taken care of when one of us was actually sick from the altitude. It was such an amazing experience and Freddy made sure we got the best of it. Thank you! Highly recommend Kondor Path Tours.

MachuPicchu and Rainbow Moutain We worked with Kondor Path for two tours, of Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain. Everything they did was well organized, well documented, well communicated. The two guides and the driver were great, very friendly and knowledgeable. All were bilingual (English and Spanish). At Rainbow Mountain we rode horses to the base of the really steep part of the mountain (this saved some 7 km of hiking). But that last part was quite difficult! I'm glad I had prepared and gotten conditioned.
