Itinerary

Choquequirao Trek 5 Days ITINERARY

PRE-TREKKING TALK: 01 to 02 days before starting the trek to Choquequirao 5 Day Trek: At 05:30 pm, at the hotel reception of the group of trekkers, our adventure guide provides general information about the 5 day Choquequirao trek, specifying each day. All questions are welcome to prepare for our expedition through the southern Andes of Peru within the Cusco region.

DAY 1

CUSCO – CAPULIYOC TO SANTA ROSA

Our Choquequirao Trek 5 Days expedition begins with the land trip at 05:30 a.m., leaving the city of Cusco and heading northwest. We cross the Anta plateau, descend towards the Limatambo valley, cross the CUNYAC bridge, and then go back up the mountain; in the sector of the branch of the town of Cachora, we take the RAMAL entered towards the Cachora valley. The last leg of the trip is from Cachora to Capuliyoc; “the trip lasts approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes.”

Capuliyoc Pass: A Glimpse into the Depths

The Capuliyoc Pass offers a mesmerizing view of the Apurimac Valley, a deep chasm that will inspire you. Apurimac Canyon, Canyon View, Capuliyoc viewpoint

In Capuliyoc, our mules are waiting for us to load all the mountain equipment and start the adventure towards Choquequirao. At approximately 10 a.m., we begin our walk descending through the Apurimac Canyon, already having spectacular panoramic views of the Andes Mountains with their eternal snow-capped peaks, such as Padreyoc.

  • From Capuliyoc to the Apurimac River, the Playa Rosalina sector takes around 4 hours and a half. WE RECOMMEND, YES OR YES, A PAIR OF CANES WITH EXCELLENT HIKING SHOES WITH ANKLE SUPPORT.
  • From PLAYA ROSALINA, the sector of the Apurimac River, towards SANTA ROSA, our trek up the mountain takes approximately 2 hours of walking. “Perhaps the night will reach us, so we recommend bringing your flashlight in your day backpack to conquer the first camp without problems.”

The walk takes about 3 hours to reach the community of Marampata. Every time we ascend the mountain, the vegetation turns green due to the presence of the cloud forest, finding bamboo, ferns, begonias, etc. The good thing about this first path is that it is a natural shade to protect us from the sun. We find incredible views of the Apurimac Canyon due to the conjugation of spectacular combinations of vegetation.

From MARAMPATA to the INC camp, it takes approximately 2 hours; the trail is undulating, but it has other amazing views of the Apurimac River and the canyon, with the first views of Choquequirao. The Choquequirao Trek in Peru is one of the most famous adventures on the trip to Cusco. This trekking route takes four days and covers 62 kilometers in outward and return sections.

The tour is recommended for children over eight years old who enjoy hiking outdoors.

Older adults wishing to do the Choquequirao trek should be physically healthy. It is not recommended if they have heart problems.

Yes, the Choquequirao trek is an accessible route for the public. However, it is advisable to hire a tour agency as it includes everything you need: a Local professional guide, camping, food, entrance fees, etc.

The route is of moderate to great difficulty. It is recommended to be in good physical condition. However, with effort, anyone can complete the hike.

Yes, we offer the 8-day trek that includes visiting the archaeological site of Choquequirao and the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

The entrance to Choquequirao costs 60 soles for adults, 30 for university students, and 25 for children. These tickets are already included in the tour.

Don’t forget to bring a sleeping bag, poncho in case of rain, comfortable sports clothes (that can withstand low temperatures), snacks, fruits, batteries, personal utensils, and objects you think are necessary.

The tour has wide availability. It is recommended to make the purchase weeks in advance. This way, you can better organize the route.

The weather during the trek is warm and temperate, ranging from 8 C to 24 C. Rain can occur on any day of the year, especially in January, February, and March.

On your own, Choquequirao is reached by Cusco or Abancay; the first destination is the town of Cachora; you ascend on foot to Choquequirao. The hike is one day, and the return is the same way.

Hiring your Choquequirao trek with Kondor Path Tours is the safest and most convenient way because they take care of all the trip’s logistics, and we must enjoy this exciting hike.

Choquequirao is 3,033 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.).

Choquequirao houses Inca constructions as impressive as Machu Picchu, such as:

  • The Main Plaza,
  • The Colcas,
  • The Inca Cemetery,
  • The Kallankas,
  • The Ushnu,
  • Los Andenes, etc.

Choquequirao is still excavating; it is estimated that, to date, only 30% of the original Inca precinct has been restored.

Because of its geographical position, Choquequirao has a “temperate-warm” climate due to the Apurimac Canyon, alternating with cold temperatures at night; the average annual temperature is 17ºC.

To do this trek, it is necessary to acclimatize in the city of Cusco one or two days before starting the hike; for proper acclimatization, it is essential to rest as much as possible, eat a little, and drink plenty of fluids.

It is also necessary to be in good physical and mental condition; this is a trek where the level of demand is higher than the Inca Trail or Salkantay.

Because Choquequirao has a “warm-temperate” climate, it is unlikely to suffer from altitude sickness, or “Soroche.” Still, if this happens, we can drink coca leaf tea, which is highly known for its healing and relaxing properties.

The Choquequirao tour is a unique and unforgettable experience; since it is a challenging, unique, and natural adventure, we will know the ancestral wonders of the Incas, accompanied by the satisfaction of feeling fulfilled at the culmination of this hike. To have an even more pleasant and safe experience, do not forget to contact Waman Adventures, a prestigious company from Cusco that will guide you in every moment of this incredible journey, along with quality and certified professionals that will make your trip the most memorable experience of your life.

It is to enjoy a full day of the archaeological ruins of Choquequirao from end to end to understand why the ancient Incas decided to build a tremendous Inca construction on top of a mountain next to a mountain range surrounded by the river Apurimac. We recommend Choquequirao Trek 5 Days for your next vacation to the Cusco region of Peru, South America.
