Machu Picchu, the ancient Incan citadel nestled high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, is one of the most awe-inspiring archaeological wonders in the world. Its rich history, stunning architecture, and breathtaking landscape attract travelers from around the globe. Kondor Path Tours will take you on a pleasant journey through a 2-day tour of Machu Picchu, exploring its history, significance, and must-see sights.
The Sacred Valley of the Incas, a picturesque region dotted with ancient ruins and quaint villages, is your first stop. Visit the archaeological sites of Pisac and Ollantaytambo, learning about the Incan culture and their advanced engineering marvels.
Our day begins at 7 a.m. when we pick you up from your hotel for a 45-minute drive to the archaeological site of Pisac. There, we will appreciate the beautiful Inca architecture. Pisac is one of the best examples of Incan architecture in the Cusco area.
After exploring the Pisac ruins, we head towards the colonial town of Pisac to shop or take lots of photos at the traditional “open daily” artisan market. Then, we travel through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, passing through beautiful colonial towns and accompanying the beautiful Urubamba River on a “1 hour and 25-minute trip” until we reach the village of Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo has sacred mountains, temples, Inca Trails, ritual sites, fountains, and enigmatic cut stones. Here, we visit the temple of the moon and sun, with the Holy Mountain (Pinkuylluna Mountain) in the background.
In Ollantaytambo, we will understand a small citadel built in stone of Inca origin. At 16:06 (approximate time), we will take the train (usually the Expedition or the one you choose). We will spend the night in Machu Picchu Pueblo; Kondor Path recommends private service.
In the afternoon, board the Expedition train that will take you on a scenic journey to Aguas Calientes, the gateway town to Machu Picchu. Enjoy panoramic views of the Andean landscape from the comfort of your seat.

Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca citadel in the Andes Mountains of Peru. It is renowned for its stunning panoramic views and sophisticated dry-stone construction techniques. Built in the 15th century, it was likely intended as a royal estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti. The site was abandoned a century later during the Spanish Conquest and was largely unknown until its rediscovery in 1911 by the American historian Hiram Bingham. Today, Machu Picchu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors each year who marvel at its architectural marvels and breathtaking natural beauty.
Machu Picchu is in a tropical zone, so the climate is warm and humid. Temperatures vary between 8 °C and 20 °C. The months from April to September are the busiest tourism season and the best time to travel to the Lost City of the Incas.
There are the following ways to get to Machu Picchu:
Train Service: You can travel on the Peru Rail and Inca Rail train companies, which have different services and daily departures.
Tourist Bus Service: The bus takes approximately 6 hours from Cusco to Hidroeléctrica via Santa Teresa.
In Hidroeléctrica, you can take a train to the town of Machupicchu or walk for 2 hours and 40 minutes following the railway.
When you arrive at Machu Picchu Pueblo, you have several options for lodging, from 5-star hotels to cheap hostels.
HOW TO GET TO MACHU PICCHU RUINS FROM MACHU PICCHU PUEBLO: There are two options:
FOR ADVENTURE TREKKING: Several hiking options exist through the Andes or the Amazon jungle of Cusco:
The Ministry of Culture, which is part of the Government of Peru, administers entrance tickets to the ruins of Machu Picchu.
You can make reservations at any time, depending on the ticket availability; if you want, the entrance ticket to Huaynapicchu must be at least three months in advance, as this tour reasonably demands.
Considering the schedules above, it is impossible since there are only two different access tickets for both. Before making the reservation, you can reserve the two tickets independently to enjoy an excellent guided tour of Machu Picchu and a great hiking adventure through the mountains of Huayna Picchu.
It is easy to find several guide services in Machu Picchu, either in groups or private.
There are several times to visit Machu Picchu. The entry time is between 6:00 and 14:00. We recommend visiting Machu Picchu between 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. If you require a specific schedule or exclusive circuit, give us the details when making the tour reservation.
It is located in Machu Picchu’s town, at the end of Pachacuteq Avenue, 20 minutes from the town square.
Not really; you can complete the process yourself, but it can be a disaster because of the long wait, and you need proper advice to buy the right entry ticket.
Kondor Path Tours receives travel communications to Machu Picchu or other adventure circuits or guided excursions. Information is available on the KONDOR PATH TOURS website, Facebook, and WhatsApp, and you can also send it to info@kondorpathtours.com.
Children under 7 do not pay for entrance tickets to the Sacred Valley. Children between the ages of 4 and 17 also have a discount on Machu Picchu tickets.
There is no age limit, and everyone is welcome.
You can carry luggage weighing a maximum of 5 kilos, or 11 pounds. Leave the principal suitcases at the hotel where you are staying in Cusco. All hotels include luggage storage services.
There are all kinds of accommodation establishments in categories from 1 to 5. We recommend reserving your hosting service in advance to have the best rooms for a pleasant stay and to make it unique on the day of the tour to Machu Picchu.
During your excursions to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, you can leave your main luggage at the hotel in Cusco or Ollantaytambo since the weight limit to carry on the train is 5 kilos per person!
