The Choquequirao Trek in Peru is one of the most famous adventures on the trip to Cusco. This trekking route takes four days and covers 62 kilometers in outward and return sections.

Yes, the Choquequirao trek is an accessible route for the public. However, it is advisable to hire a tour agency as it includes everything you need: a Local professional guide, camping, food, entrance fees, etc.

The route is of moderate to great difficulty. It is recommended to be in good physical condition. However, with effort, anyone can complete the hike.

Yes, we offer the 8-day trek that includes visiting the archaeological site of Choquequirao and the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

The entrance to Choquequirao costs 60 soles for adults, 30 for university students, and 25 for children. These tickets are already included in the tour.

Don’t forget to bring a sleeping bag, poncho in case of rain, comfortable sports clothes (that can withstand low temperatures), snacks, fruits, batteries, personal utensils, and objects you think are necessary.

The tour has wide availability. It is recommended to make the purchase weeks in advance. This way, you can better organize the route.

The weather during the trek is warm and temperate, ranging from 8 C to 24 C. Rain can occur on any day of the year, especially in January, February, and March.

On your own, Choquequirao is reached by Cusco or Abancay; the first destination is the town of Cachora; you ascend on foot to Choquequirao. The hike is one day, and the return is the same way.

Hiring your Choquequirao trek with Kondor Path Tours is the safest and most convenient way because they take care of all the trip’s logistics, and we must enjoy this exciting hike.

Choquequirao is 3,033 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.).

Choquequirao houses Inca constructions as impressive as Machu Picchu, such as:

  • The Main Plaza,
  • The Colcas,
  • The Inca Cemetery,
  • The Kallankas,
  • The Ushnu,
  • Los Andenes, etc.

Choquequirao is still excavating; it is estimated that, to date, only 30% of the original Inca precinct has been restored.

Because of its geographical position, Choquequirao has a “temperate-warm” climate due to the Apurimac Canyon, alternating with cold temperatures at night; the average annual temperature is 17ºC.

It is necessary to acclimatize in the city of Cusco one or two days before starting the hike; for proper acclimatization, it is required to rest as much as possible, eat a little, and drink plenty of fluids.

It is also necessary to be in good physical and mental condition; this is a trek where the level of demand is higher than the Inca Trail or Salkantay.

Because Choquequirao has a “warm-temperate” climate, it is unlikely to suffer from altitude sickness, or “Soroche.” Still, if this happens, we can drink coca leaf tea, which is highly known for its healing and relaxing properties.

The Choquequirao tour is a unique and unforgettable experience; since it is a challenging, unique, and natural adventure, we will know the ancestral wonders of the Incas, accompanied by the satisfaction of feeling fulfilled at the culmination of this hike. To have an even more pleasant and safe experience, do not forget to contact Waman Adventures, a prestigious company from Cusco that will guide you in every moment of this incredible journey, along with quality and certified professionals that will make your trip the most memorable experience of your life.

Maras and Moray + Pachamanca Easily the best tour experience I had during my trip to Peru. I highly recommend Kondor Tours as the customer service is top-notch. James responded to my queries almost instantly each time and was very helpful. We were even treated to a can of cusquenia beer each when we visited the office! Our guide Alfredo was absolutely amazing and we were fortunate to have him as our guide for the tour. He is very passionate about his job and shared so much valuable information with us. He has a very candid character and we were very comfortable throughout! I highly recommend requesting for him as your guide (the best we had while touring Peru for 3 weeks). Also, I would say opting in for and additional traditional peruvian pachamanca meal experience must not be missed. The community people were very warm and gracious hosts and it is eye opening to witness the preparation of such a traditional feast normally done only for special occasions like weddings. We even had time for dancing! Two thumbs up for sure!

3-day Choquequirao Trek We took a three-day private group trek to Choquequirao as a family of five. Kondor Path Tours organized a pick-up and drop-off in Urubamba instead of Cusco and did an extra stop at the Saywhite archeological site. Everything went very smoothly during the entire trip, meals and accommodation were as expected or better. The trek itself is quite demanding (particularly in three days), but the nature/ views/ Choquequirao/ dearth of tourists largely compensate. Anyway, we were looking for a physical challenge! Our guide Oron was great. Explaining, motivating, solving potential problems/ demands. We would definitely recommend Kondor Path Tours.

Family vacation Kondor path tours arranged a couple of private tours on our last vacation in Peru. Our first tour was the Rainbow Mountains and the next day we did the sacred Valley Tour. The administrative services were excellent, we met at our hotel the day before our tours and our head guide, Fredy, explained everything perfectly, including what to wear and bring for each tour. On the tour days, our guides (Fredy and Juan Carlos) and driver (Juan Carlos) were great! very knowledgeable, considerate about our party, always helpful and ready to answer questions and meet the expectations (completely different expectations because we had different ages in our party (from 11 to 69 years)) of each party member. The rainbow mountain is awesome and is is really helpful to go with a guide that knows about the area, but also about hiking!!!

Excellent guide who stays with you for the entire day The Vinicunca one-day horse tour was fantastic. The friendly and informative Freddy guided us for the entire bus ride and mountain trek. He knew where to stand to get the best photos and made everything fun and accommodating. The horse ride up made it much easier to enjoy the final hike. Lunch was large and tasty. Awesome Service and Tours Fernando and Patricia were SUPER responsive - usually responded to emails within 10 minutes!!. The arrangements they made for Cusco, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, and surrounding areas were awesome. They were waiting for us at the airport and did everything we asked them. Our guide for the four days was Herberth and driver was Juan Carlos. Both were SUPER SUPER great. Juan Carlos was such an amazingly pleasant driver with cute stories. He also was a very safe driver. Herberth was very knowledgable and helpful. Took us all over the places with details about the history and details. We had friends who were not able to climb much and they accommodated us all. On the day we had planned to do rainbow mountain we did not feel great and emailed Fernando at 5am and he responded within 5 minutes with other options for us to do that day. Overall, if you are going to Peru and want to visit the historic sites, you SHOULD go with these people. They are SUPERB!!
