The INCA TRAIL route is limited to 500 people per day. Currently, you cannot make the Inca Trail on your own! The Peruvian government grants a license to several companies to organize this route. These companies have tour guides and local porters to carry out the tour. Although almost anyone could do it, the Inca Trail is demanding due to its unevenness. It does make between mountains and passes between valleys. Ecosystems and archaeological sites of great value do cross, and although the ultimate goal is the lost city of Machu Picchu, the road is part of the reward.
When organizing yourself, you must consider what you need and what you are carrying. Every kilo of useless weight is a stone on the Inca trail.
