RECOMMENDATION OF A RABBIT
The trekking gear for Choquequirao 3 Days brings just what is necessary. Like a pair of light walking shoes with ankle support, a couple of walking sticks, a flashlight, 02 light walking shirts, two hiking pants, and a light jacket for cold temperatures for the MARAMPATA day, the rest of the days they are pretty hot, etc. The less weight your luggage, the better your adventure will be.
Our activities start at 04 in the morning to have breakfast at 04:30 to begin our true adventure through the Andes; Today is our day to conquer Choquequirao.
We descend for 01-hour towards the Apurímac River to start the ascent to the MOUNTAIN by the zigzagging trail for 05 hours to Marampata. From Marampata, we have 01-hour and a half of walking between small ascents and descents to enter the cloud forest until we reach the ruins of Choquequirao and then return to the MARAMPATA LODGING to take a hot shower and have dinner with enough carbohydrates.
Why start early: Our main reason is to cover the trekking section from CHIQUISCA TO MARAMPATA in one day and have a guided tour of Choquequirao. The remoteness of the trekking area makes our experience in the Andes memorable.
Brief description of the trek to Choquequirao between Chiquisca and Marampata
On this last day of the trek, we will ALREADY be used to getting up at 04 in the morning to start our trek route to cover the section from MARAMPATA to CAPULIYOC.
At 04:30, we descend the beautiful Apurímac canyon until we reach the banks of the Apurimac River for an average of 03 and a half hours. We ascend the mountain road from PLAYA ROSALINA until we reach CHIQUISCA for our local breakfast. During the walk, it is vital to have some energy bars or special preparations in sachets to cover the calories we burn. You also have to bring ENOUGH WATER “there are local stores in strategic places such as water from streams in certain sectors of the circuit (take water purification tablets).”
At 10:00, we start the last 03 and a half hours hiking up the mountain until we reach CAPULIYOC. Once we get to Capuliyoc, we thank the entire hiking trail, the Choquequirao temple, and mother nature for having this great hike through the Andes of the APURÍMAC CANYON.
We have lunch in Capuliyoc, and at approximately 3:30 pm, we begin the land trip back to Cusco. Thank you very much for exploring Choquequirao Trek 3 Days; we are sure they will return to the Cusco, Peru – South America region for more treks.

Choquequirao is 3,033 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.).
Choquequirao houses Inca constructions as impressive as Machu Picchu, such as:
Choquequirao is still excavating; it is estimated that, to date, only 30% of the original Inca precinct has been restored.
Because of its geographical position, Choquequirao has a “temperate – warm” climate due to the Apurimac canyon, alternating with cold temperatures at night; the average annual temperature is 17ºC.
For this trek, it is necessary to acclimatize in the city of Cusco one or two days before starting the hike; rest as much as possible, eat a little, eat a little, eat a little, eat a little, and drink plenty of fluids.
It is also necessary to be in good physical and mental condition; this is a trek where the level of demand is higher than the Inca Trail or Salkantay.
Because Choquequirao has a “warm-temperate” climate, it is unlikely to suffer from altitude sickness or “Soroche.” Still, if this happens, we can drink the Coca Leaves tea, which is highly known for its healing and relaxing properties.
