Travel Guide

The Ballestas Islands Boat Tour is a popular excursion that takes you on a boat ride to explore the Ballestas Islands, a group of small islands located off the coast of Paracas in Peru. The tour offers the opportunity to observe diverse marine wildlife, including birds, sea lions, and possibly dolphins.

The duration of the Ballestas Islands Boat Tour can vary depending on the specific tour package chosen. Generally, the tour lasts around 2 hours, including transportation to and from the islands.

During the tour, you can expect to see various wildlife, such as sea lions, Humboldt penguins, marine birds like pelicans and cormorants, and possibly dolphins. You’ll also witness impressive rock formations, arches, and caves, including the iconic “Candelabra” geoglyph carved into the side of a hill.

Most Ballestas Islands boat tours depart from Paracas town, easily accessible from nearby cities like Lima or Ica. The tour operator typically provides transportation, and you will board a boat from the Paracas harbor to reach the islands.

Disembarking on the Ballestas Islands is not permitted to protect the fragile ecosystem and wildlife. The tour is conducted entirely from the boat, allowing visitors to observe the animals and scenery from a close but respectful distance.

Swimming or snorkeling is generally not included in the Ballestas Islands Boat Tour. The focus of the tour is on the observation of wildlife and the natural surroundings of the boat. However, some tour operators may offer additional options for swimming or snorkeling in other areas, separate from the Ballestas Islands tour. It’s best to check with the tour provider for additional activities in the package.

Most tour boats for the Ballestas Islands provide basic restroom facilities on board, though they may be small and limited in capacity. Using restroom facilities before boarding the local boat is an excellent idea to ensure your comfort during the tour.

It is recommended to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a lightweight jacket or sweater, comfortable clothing, and non-slip footwear. Don’t forget to bring a camera or binoculars to capture the wildlife and scenery. Packing a small bag with essentials like a water bottle and any necessary medications is also a good idea.

The Ballestas Islands Boat Tour is generally suitable for all ages, including families with children. However, it’s essential to consider the duration of the boat ride, the possibility of waves or sea motion, and each participant’s specific needs and preferences. If you have concerns about sea sickness or the suitability of the tour for young children or elderly individuals, it’s advisable to consult with the tour operator beforehand.

The Ballestas Islands Boat Tour operates year-round, but the best time to take the tour is usually during the early morning hours when the weather tends to be calmer and there is more wildlife.

Maras and Moray + Pachamanca Easily the best tour experience I had during my trip to Peru. I highly recommend Kondor Tours as the customer service is top-notch. James responded to my queries almost instantly each time and was very helpful. We were even treated to a can of cusquenia beer each when we visited the office! Our guide Alfredo was absolutely amazing and we were fortunate to have him as our guide for the tour. He is very passionate about his job and shared so much valuable information with us. He has a very candid character and we were very comfortable throughout! I highly recommend requesting for him as your guide (the best we had while touring Peru for 3 weeks). Also, I would say opting in for and additional traditional peruvian pachamanca meal experience must not be missed. The community people were very warm and gracious hosts and it is eye opening to witness the preparation of such a traditional feast normally done only for special occasions like weddings. We even had time for dancing! Two thumbs up for sure!

3-day Choquequirao Trek We took a three-day private group trek to Choquequirao as a family of five. Kondor Path Tours organized a pick-up and drop-off in Urubamba instead of Cusco and did an extra stop at the Saywhite archeological site. Everything went very smoothly during the entire trip, meals and accommodation were as expected or better. The trek itself is quite demanding (particularly in three days), but the nature/ views/ Choquequirao/ dearth of tourists largely compensate. Anyway, we were looking for a physical challenge! Our guide Oron was great. Explaining, motivating, solving potential problems/ demands. We would definitely recommend Kondor Path Tours.
Proffecional company and perfect guide Kondor Path Tours are so proffecional and easy to work with. We went with them on the 2 days short Inca trail to Machu Picchu with our three children. The correspondence was great and everything was perfectly planned in every detail. Our guide Alfredo was so friendly, knowledgeable and pleasant to be around! Thank you Kondor Path Tours - we couldn’t have asked for more!!
Trip to Rainbow Mountain Excellent experience!! Our guide Odon was prompt with pickup time and extremely friendly. The drove to rainbow mountain was smooth. We did the horseback ride up the mountain, and Odon was right there with us. The actual hike up, he provided support, laughter, and information about the region. Amazing experience with an awesome guide. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience.

Alittle bit of everything We had a last minute change of plans when it came to our tour. We were supposed to visit the rainbow mountain but with the recent protesting we called to see if we could change last minute and they were very accommodating. Odon and Fernando were amazing! They took us to see multiple attractions and made us feel very at home. And kudos to Renee for the amazing driving. I would highly recommend using this company for a tour. We will definitely use them if we ever come back!

Atv Tour Odin and Fernando were great as well as our driver Rene. Very informative about the city of Cusco. Enjoyed our tour with this company and these individuals who took us around. Great time! Highly recommend!!!
Family vacation Kondor path tours arranged a couple of private tours on our last vacation in Peru. Our first tour was the Rainbow Mountains and the next day we did the sacred Valley Tour. The administrative services were excellent, we met at our hotel the day before our tours and our head guide, Fredy, explained everything perfectly, including what to wear and bring for each tour. On the tour days, our guides (Fredy and Juan Carlos) and driver (Juan Carlos) were great! very knowledgeable, considerate about our party, always helpful and ready to answer questions and meet the expectations (completely different expectations because we had different ages in our party (from 11 to 69 years)) of each party member. The rainbow mountain is awesome and is is really helpful to go with a guide that knows about the area, but also about hiking!!!
Excellent guide who stays with you for the entire day The Vinicunca one-day horse tour was fantastic. The friendly and informative Freddy guided us for the entire bus ride and mountain trek. He knew where to stand to get the best photos and made everything fun and accommodating. The horse ride up made it much easier to enjoy the final hike. Lunch was large and tasty. Door to door service.
Awesome Service and Tours Fernando and Patricia were SUPER responsive - usually responded to emails within 10 minutes!!. The arrangements they made for Cusco, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, and surrounding areas were awesome. They were waiting for us at the airport and did everything we asked them. Our guide for the four days was Herberth and driver was Juan Carlos. Both were SUPER SUPER great. Juan Carlos was such an amazingly pleasant driver with cute stories. He also was a very safe driver. Herberth was very knowledgable and helpful. Took us all over the places with details about the history and details. We had friends who were not able to climb much and they accommodated us all. On the day we had planned to do rainbow mountain we did not feel great and emailed Fernando at 5am and he responded within 5 minutes with other options for us to do that day. Overall, if you are going to Peru and want to visit the historic sites, you SHOULD go with these people. They are SUPERB!!
