Overview

What to Expect on This 4-Day Accessible Machu Picchu Tour

Experience the wonder of Machu Picchu without any accessibility barriers. Our wheelchair-accessible tour provides a unique opportunity to explore the ancient Incan ruins easily and comfortably.

Our experienced guides will take you through the breathtaking landscapes and fascinating history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will see beautiful views of the Andes Mountains and the Urubamba River. You can also explore the hidden treasures of Machu Picchu.

Is This Accessible Peru Tour Right for You?

This program is designed primarily for travelers using manual or folding wheelchairs, as electric wheelchairs are not permitted on most train services and inside the archaeological site.

If you use a manual or folding wheelchair, have limited mobility, or simply prefer a pace that is more comfortable and supportive, this program gives you the opportunity to explore incredible sites like Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu with confidence and dignity.

Our team understands the diverse needs of travelers with mobility challenges. We focus on routes, logistics, and support that make moving around easier — from accessible transport to carefully chosen paths and welcome assistance when needed. While some steps and uneven terrain are naturally part of Andean landscapes, experienced guides are there to help you navigate each site safely and enjoy the experience fully.

Whether you’re traveling with family, friends, caregivers, or independently, this tour balances adventure with thoughtful planning so you can focus on the sights, culture, and community experiences that make a visit to Peru truly memorable.

Machu Picchu Accessibility Regulations for Wheelchair Users

Machu Picchu offers several official visitor circuits. Wheelchair users are permitted to access the site through Circuit 4, which passes through the central sector of the citadel. This route is considered the most suitable option for visitors with limited mobility. While portions of the path are relatively even, some sections may include small steps or uneven stone surfaces typical of Inca construction.

Visitors are advised to use a manual, folding wheelchair. Electric wheelchairs are generally not permitted inside the archaeological site. Travelers using crutches should ensure they have rubber tips for better stability on stone pathways.

Please note that Machu Picchu entrance tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable, and are valid only for the specific date, time, and circuit indicated at the time of purchase.

Important Mobility Regulations

Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes) is a small town where most services are within walking distance. There is no taxi service available inside the town, and movement is primarily on foot. Some areas include ramps, but terrain may vary depending on the street.

Transportation between Machu Picchu Pueblo and the Machu Picchu entrance is provided exclusively by shuttle buses. The first bus typically departs at 5:30 a.m., and the last return bus leaves in the late afternoon (subject to seasonal adjustments). Buses operate frequently throughout the day, although waiting times may vary depending on visitor volume.

Machu Picchu Trains and Wheelchair Accessibility

PeruRail Accessibility

PeruRail allows only manual, folding wheelchairs on board. Electric wheelchairs are not permitted. Boarding typically requires navigating a few steps, and ramps are not available on most services. Assistance from station staff may be required during boarding and disembarking.

Our team coordinates directly with the railway company in advance to request authorization for wheelchair transport. While train seat assignments are automated and subject to availability, we make every effort to request seating near the entrance to facilitate easier access whenever possible.

Inca Rail Accessibility

Inca Rail permits manual wheelchairs on select services, including the 360° class. The company may request a photo of the wheelchair in advance to confirm that it fits through the train door. Small, foldable wheelchairs are strongly recommended.

Inca Rail provides ramp assistance for boarding. Please note that each passenger is allowed up to 5 kilograms (11 lbs) of personal belongings on board.
