Salkantay Trek 4 Days + Short Inca Trail Permit — The ONLY Salkantay + Sun Gate Combo 2026

Ready to take on the Salkantay Trek? Get all the insider information with this four-day itinerary. Hike through stunning scenery and take home unforgettable memories!
Most travelers who want to hike to Machu Picchu face a difficult decision: do you commit to the Classic Inca Trail 4 Days (43 km + 3 nights camping) OR do you skip the Inca Trail entirely and choose the alternative Salkantay Trek (glacier trek but no Sun Gate arrival)?
The Salkantay Trek 4 Days + Short Inca Trail Permit Combo eliminates this trade-off — you get the Salkantay glacier trek experience PLUS the Ministry of Culture Inca Trail permit + Sun Gate arrival in one unified 4-day adventure.
Five reasons discerning trekkers choose this specific combo:
1. The ONLY Salkantay + Sun Gate permit combo in our catalog. Every other Salkantay tour on the market uses the standard Salkantay Hike to Machu Picchu (no permit, no Sun Gate). This tour is the ONLY 4-Day Salkantay that includes Ministry of Culture Inca Trail permit with Day 3 Short Inca Trail hike from Km 104 through Chachabamba + Wiñaywayna to the Sun Gate — the same permit-only route as our Short Inca Trail 2 Days hub.
2. Salkantay Pass 4,630m — Peru’s second highest trek pass. After Ausangate (5,000m+), Salkantay Pass is the highest altitude accessible via standard multi-day trekking. Horseback ascent option Day 1 makes this achievable for most travelers with basic fitness. The panoramic view from Salkantay Pass with Nevado Salkantay 6,271m glacier dominating the horizon is a lifetime memory.
3. Cocalmayo Hot Springs + Santa Teresa hotel INCLUDED Day 1. After the demanding Day 1 hike (Soraypampa → Salkantay Pass → Challway), your body needs recovery. 1 hour of Cocalmayo Hot Springs INCLUDED + 2-star Santa Teresa hotel INCLUDED (dinner at Restaurant Manu INCLUDED) provide comfort that the Classic Inca Trail 4 Days (camping only) cannot match. You’ll wake up Day 2 refreshed for the Llactapata + Hidroeléctrica adventure.
4. Llactapata ruins Day 2 — FIRST Machu Picchu view from off-the-beaten-track angle. Llactapata is a beautiful Inca site at 2,814m that most Machu Picchu tourists never see. From Llactapata, you get the FIRST panoramic view of the Machu Picchu citadel from a completely different angle than standard tours. Lunch INCLUDED with Machu Picchu view — one of the most special meal moments in your entire Peru trip.
5. Multi-ecosystem journey unmatched in our catalog. Day 1: alpine glacier (Salkantay Pass 4,630m). Day 2: coffee plantations + cloud forest (Lucmabamba). Day 3: cloud forest + permit-only Inca sites (Chachabamba + Wiñaywayna) + Sun Gate. Day 4: iconic Machu Picchu citadel. Four completely different ecosystems in 4 days — impossible in any other tour.

This itinerary begins with a 04:30 AM pickup on Day 1 and follows a fixed schedule with official permits and train departures. Because Inca Trail permits are non-transferable and train schedules cannot be delayed, we do not offer airport pickups for this tour.
We recommend arriving in Cusco at least 2–3 days before departure to acclimatize to the altitude, avoid flight delays and start the trek well rested.
Your permit application is processed immediately after your deposit is received.
