I had reserved a spot with another outfitter to hike the Classic Inca Trail, but decided to go 5 days early to do some day hikes and to better acclimate to the elevation. I ran across Kondor Path (mentioned in a blog) and sent them an inquiry about setting up 5 day hikes for me. Patricia Delgado responded promptly, and went above and beyond to help me set up the hikes, which she custom designed to meet my requests (a blend of archaeological, cultural, and the sacred). So I spent five days with Odon Quispe (my guide) and David Pontecil (our driver)....what wonderful companions...by the fifth day we felt like old friends. We visited Cusco South Valley on Saturday April 8, 2017 (Tipon, Pikillacta, Rumi Qolaq, "the Sistine Chapel of the Americas" at Andahuaylillas, and an authentic Cuy lunch....a very full day of wonderful sights!). On Sunday April 9, 2017 we visited the Piscac Ruins, and attended a magnificent and moving Palm Sunday procession at the church in town....the pageantry of the elders dressed in their traditional garb and young men blowing conch horns as a call to worship was a magnificent experience. That day we also visited Ancas Marka and the beautiful carving at Uno Orqo. Monday April 10 was a full day, with visits to Quillarumiyoc (Moonstone), Moray (circular terraces), Maras salt mines, Rachi, Chinchero, and the beautiful sacred spot of Naupa Iglesia- I don't know how we fit it all in, but we did! A truly memorable day! Tuesday April 11 was designed to test my fitness at elevation as Odon and I climbed from Lamay up to Huchuy Cusco (an elevation gain of around 3,000')....what a great site and what a great view! After the climb, we stopped back by the Pisac market and Odon helped me negotiate a very good price on some silver jewelry for my wife. My last day with Odon and David was the morning of Wednesday April 12 and we had leisurely visits to Tambo Machay, Puka Pucara, Qenqo, a non-tourist section of Sacsayhuaman (quarry area and Moon Temple) and the big market in Cusco. As I reflect back on these five days, I remain amazed at how much I was able to see and experience thanks to Kondor Path. I cannot speak highly enough at how professional, prompt and kind these folks were. There prices were very reasonable and well worth the experiences I enjoyed, thanks to them. I recommend Kondor Path without reservation! Will be happy to answer any questions- just message me on Facebook (John T. McCoppin).
