Designed for experienced hikers, this expedition offers one of the most physically demanding and rewarding trekking experiences in the Peruvian Andes.

Consider the 8-day Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu for an unforgettable adventure. This trek will take you through stunning landscapes and ancient ruins, providing breathtaking views and a unique cultural experience.
This multi-day expedition explores some of the most remote trekking environments in Peru, combining the Apurímac Canyon, high-altitude mountain passes, cloud forests, original Inca pathways, and the final arrival to Machu Picchu through the Short Inca Trail.
From the deep Apurímac Canyon and remote Yanama mountain passes to cloud forests and original Inca pathways near Machu Picchu, the scenery changes dramatically throughout the expedition.
One of the most distinctive aspects of this expedition is the transition from the remote Choquequirao circuit to the original pathways of the Short Inca Trail, before arriving at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku).

From 4 in the afternoon on, there are some gusts of wind, which is pretty cold. We recommend bringing a coat for the guided visit to Choquequirao to withstand the low temperatures, plus one flashlight since it could get dark. We returned to the INC base camp with our flashlight and overcoat without any inconvenience.

We descend for 1 hour and a half more to reach the RÍO-BLANCO River and canyon; walkers can soak or dip in the creek’s chilly waters before heading to lunch. We have about 03 more hours to climb the mountain by a zigzag path until we reach MAIZAL.

The day brings sunscreen and mosquito block because there are many mosquitoes, especially in the Rio-Blanco ravine. It is also essential to carry purification tablets to purify the water. The purification tablets help decontaminate the river or spring water in our Choquequirao Trek: 8 Days to Machu Picchu.

Today, we conquer the highest pass of the entire Choquequirao Trek 8-Day DAYS Circuit, the Yanama Pass.
The activities start at 06:00, walking along the ancient Inca trail within the cloud forest vegetation, turning into a steppe where phreatic friezes and grasslands dominate. We walk for half a day, 4 hours of ascent to the Yanama Pass, and 40 minutes to reach the Yanama community. In Yanama, we say goodbye to the muleteers, and then we take the local transport services to transfer all the mountain equipment and adventurer crew to the LUCMABAMBA base camp.
Coffee plantations surround the Lucmabamba camp like the fruits of the low jungle. Ladies and gentlemen hikers, we are close to Machu Picchu, and only a mountain can observe the beautiful ruins of Machu Picchu from the natural viewpoint of the mountain.
