Overview

What to Expect on This 4-Day Amazon Lodge Experience

This four-day Amazon lodge experience is designed for travelers who want to immerse themselves in the rainforest without sacrificing comfort. From the moment you arrive in Puerto Maldonado, the pace of life slows down, and the sounds of the jungle begin to take over.

You’ll stay at an eco-lodge surrounded by lush vegetation, where wooden walkways connect cozy rooms, dining areas, and river docks. Each day includes guided excursions led by knowledgeable local experts who understand the rhythms of the forest and the wildlife that calls it home.

Expect early mornings filled with birdsong, boat rides along winding rivers, and quiet walks beneath towering trees. You may spot monkeys moving through the canopy, colorful macaws flying overhead, or caimans resting along the riverbanks at night. The experience blends adventure with relaxation, giving you time to explore and also to unwind in a peaceful natural setting.

By the end of your stay, you won’t just have visited the Amazon — you’ll have experienced its atmosphere, its biodiversity, and its deep connection to the people who live there.

4-Day Route Overview

  • DAY 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado — Jungle Excursion — Caiman Safari
  • DAY 2: AM Sandoval Lake Tour: PM the Canopy Walkway — Night Hike
  • DAY 3: Visit a Native Community and Jungle Excursion
  • DAY 4: At Dawn Tour to the Parrot Clay Lick — Puerto Maldonado Out

Highlights of the Amazon Experience

  • One of the most unforgettable moments of this journey is exploring Sandoval Lake at sunrise. As the mist rises from the water, you may spot giant river otters, colorful macaws flying overhead, and monkeys moving through the treetops. The lake’s calm atmosphere offers a rare glimpse into the Amazon’s vibrant wildlife.
  • Another highlight is walking along the canopy walkway, where you can observe the rainforest from above. From this elevated perspective, the forest stretches endlessly in shades of green, and the sounds of birds and insects create a truly immersive experience.
  • Night excursions add a completely different dimension to the adventure. With the guidance of experienced local naturalists, you’ll discover how the jungle transforms after dark — from caimans along the riverbanks to nocturnal insects and amphibians hidden among the trees.
  • Equally meaningful is the opportunity to learn about local communities and their connection to the forest. Understanding how people live alongside this extraordinary ecosystem adds cultural depth to the experience.
  • Together, these moments create a balanced adventure that combines wildlife, scenery, culture, and comfort in the heart of the Amazon.

Arrival in Puerto Maldonado: Reception organized at the Puerto Maldonado airport: “The native guide and the driver of the vehicle wait for the group with a sign with their names written on it.”

We travel about 18 minutes to the Capitanía port’s fluvial pier to board a motorized boat and navigate the Madre de Dios River for about 35 minutes until we reach the ecolodge.

IN THE AFTERNOON, WALK THROUGH THE AMAZON

At approximately 3:30 pm, exploration of the Amazon jungle begins, with observation of the vast ecological life and the thick natural botanical garden.

Get one of the best views of the area during the guided tour. The native guide reveals the details of Mother Nature during a 2-hour walk through the ecolodge’s trails.
