Machu Picchu Highlights Travel Packages

Machu Picchu Highlights Travel Packages. Machu Picchu Inca city was rediscovered just 106 years ago, by the professor of history, Hiram Bingham, (from Hawaii). This ancient Inca citadel was hidden for 400 years by Inca priests of the modern Incas (Colonial times), Peru Tours is a destination for an unforgettable vacation with friends and families. Condor Tours has a variety of itineraries to select from which will allow you to much better enjoy the Ancient Capitol of the Incas.

Day 1: Cusco Arrival, PM Cathedral & Qoricancha Tour  (By Foot)

If your flight arrives during the morning this works best for this tour. Upon your  arrival at the Cusco airport we will be waiting for you with our Kondor logo and your name. We will load your luggage on our transport and transfer you to your selected hotel.

Note: We recommend that you select a hotel that is very close to the Plaza of Cusco or Cusco center. Cusco city is an old city in the Americas, where the Colonial houses constructed on Inca remains are unique. This is why the UNESCO declared Cusco a world heritage in 1983.

At approximately 3 PM we start our tour around Cusco. At Cusco Plaza we visit the main Cathedral ( actually 3 churches total which comprise the Cathedral). The Cathedral has many paintings and canvases, also relics ornate with pure gold. The famous last supper painting with the Guinea pig in it is displayed here (the most important painting in all Cusco state). We explore the area for about 1 hour. (It is forbidden to take pictures any where in a church in Cusco state.) Then we walk to Qoricancha (the golden Inca temple) with the Inca wall of exquisite work. We explore what was the main church of the Incas who were deeply religious (similar to the Catholic religion just with different expressions and names).

Today we have just an easy walk in Cusco allowing you to adapt to high altitudes. During the evening enjoy traditional food around the Cusco Plaza by yourself (optional).

We always recommend that you bring water, some snacks, a windbreaker, hat, cap, sunscreen, and sunglasses.

We go on the city tour during the morning, because it is a better time in order to avoid large crowds. During about 4 hours we explore these gems of the sacred land of the Incas. We always have active itineraries with a professional local guide who will show you the significance of the 4 Incan sites, such as Sacsaywaman which literally means “the falcon is satisfied with food ” another interesting fact is that Cusco city has the shape of a giant Puma, with Sacsaywaman as the head of the megalithic Puma body.

At 7:30 we pick you up from your hotel for a tour around the Sacred Valley of the Incas. During the afternoon we have our train service to Aguas Calientes village, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo.

This morning we follow the north paved road of Cusco city, passing through some Andean settlements such as Poroy, Cachimayo, Chinchero, and Maras. After a half hour on a dirt road we arrive at Moray. Moray is very special because the sun rays are aligned with this site, allowing the sun energy to make it possible to grow many varieties of plants in this side of the world. Moray has 3 Inca round terraces, “Inca greenhouses,” a trail, Inca channels of water, Inca steps, natural balconies, remains of an Inca priest’s house, and the parking area.  Here the Inca Masters were  genetically practicing with herbs, seeds, plants, etc., developing many plants so they became edible for humans. Explore this Incan place and take energy from this place.

The next place we visit is Salineras, the salt mines, which originated from ancient times ( 800 to 200 years BC in Pre Incas time and then 1000 AD when the Incas got the control of the place).  During the Colonial times, the Mercedarian religious group founded the Colonial town of Maras to get the control of the mines to obtain salt for their Andes people.  Nowadays people from Maras and area are the owners of those mini pools. All the process is organic and traditional resulting in various types of salt.

At Urubamba, an ideal location in the sacred Valley of the Incas, we have a buffet lunch.  After lunch the last place we visit is Ollantaytambo Park. This ancient place was a temple dedicated to the sun. It has a pyramidal shape on top of the mountain once used to get the control of the area. (The 3 inter Andean valleys were controlled by the Inca soldiers.) The Incas also had a deep respect for nature and their religion was present in everything related to Pachamama (mother nature). Ollantaytambo has sacred mountains and fountains and enigmatic cut stones.

After exploring Ollantaytambo, we go to the train station to catch the train service to Aguas Calientes Village.
