Day 1: Cusco Arrival

Today we recommend that you fly from Lima to Cuzco, in the morning so you have time for acclimatizing to the high elevation. If you arrive in Cusco city in the morning, you might explore Cusco center that day, visiting the main Inca/Colonial Plaza, the 12 angles stone, or the San Blas neighborhood. Whatever time you arrive at the Cusco airport (morning or afternoon), we will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your selected Hotel.

Adventure Machu Picchu Condor Trip Summary

Day 2: In and Around Cusco Tour

Our Kondor itinerary is organized so you can enjoy the ancestral Incan sites with short walks at every place we visit. We start today at 8:30 AM on our visit to several Inca locations. Our first stop is at Chinchero village, a town  that has Inca and Colonial houses, a beautiful combination of those architectures. We visit some of the Inca textiles centers to understand the Incas’ weaving and how they used natural dyes for their textiles. Today we also have an option to buy original souvenirs made of Alpaca or Llama wool. The Andean families here have formed a cooperative which offers their exceptional hand-made textiles such as ponchos and sweaters. After the demonstration and shopping, we visit the Incan site of Chinchero, well known as “the road of the rainbows” because most of the year we can find beautiful rainbows around there. Chinchero was the hacienda where the ninth Inca ruler called Pachakuteq relaxed. Also at Upper Chinchero we have the Catholic chapel dedicated to Montserrat virgin saint. Walking around those Incan places is interesting and educational.

We return to the north side of Cusco to visit Qenqo, where these amazing massive stones have been carved into various shapes. We visit the Inca amphitheater, tunnels and underground Inca trail of Qenqo, ritual altars, rock tables, Inca houses and more. As we explore Qenqo, we also have panoramic views of Cusco city.

The next place to visit is Sacsaywaman. This Incan name has some confusion with the English pronunciation of “sexy woman” because it almost sounds the same. This megalithic Incan site in Peru, South America, is unique because the shape of each stone used in the building is different, and the rocks precisely fit together without cement or glue. As we walk and explore we try to understand how human effort made this tremendous work possible.

The last place to visit, is Qoricancha, “the golden Inca temple.” This place was more like the Inca Cathedral of all the empire with altars to their gods such as the sun, moon, star, thunder, and deities. (Qoricancha is located close to the main plaza of Cusco).

Included: Box lunch

Day 3: Half Day Tour of Cusco City and Sacred Valley

Today we have to pack a small duffle bag or backpack with all the necessary equipment for two days of tour. (The main luggage we leave at the hotel in Cusco as we will be returning to this same hotel after this tour.) On our tour today we explore some of the most fabulous locations of the Incas in the Andes. On the afternoon after the tour, we board the train service from Ollantaytambo train station to Aguas Calientes village.

Today we start our tour at 7 AM. We first visit Puca Pucara and Tambomachay. Pucapucara was the red fortress and has connections by the Inca lookout with Tambomachay. This place has an Inca fountain, with spring water that was used for ceremonies, and was also dedicated to the Inca princess.

By transport we drive up from Cusco Valley to a higher location at 3,800 m/12,467 ft. where we enter Corao valley. As we proceed  the Andes terrain becomes more greener. Finally we stop at the lookout of the Sacred Valley of the Incas to view the best vistas of the Inca Valley with their mountain ranges. After a short time we arrive at Inca Pisac, which is located on a Mountain of the same name. All around we have Inca terracing systems for farming, and Inca trails, tunnels, Inca settlements, and the biggest Inca cemeteries, which we will be visiting. Pisac is like returning to the ancient past. The Spaniards could not built their colonial houses up in the mountains, so there is nothing to obstruct the spectacular views on all sides.

After visiting Pisac we carry on by transport (one hour) to Urubamba village. There we are served our buffet lunch. Following the Sacred Valley of the Incas roads we get to our last place of the day called Ollantaytambo, the Incan place which was the last refuge of the Incas. Here we visit  the temple of the moon and sun, with the holy mountain (Pinkuylluna Mountain) in the background. At the reserved time we board the train service to Machu Picchu Pueblo, (1 hour and forty minutes train ride).  We arrive at Aguas Calientes village in preparation for the next day visit to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary.
